Air Jordan

Air Jordan IV

The Air Jordan 4 took the world by storm in 1989. The Air Jordan 4 featured many new design concepts. First, the straps on the side for increased ankle support, the air sole heel for added cushioning, and a full length midsole. The Air Jordan 4 was another masterpiece to the Jordan lineup.

The Air Jordan 5 was released in 1990 and was inspired by the WW2 Mustang fighter plane. The most obvious element of the inspiration is the shark teeth shapes on the midsole of the shoe. The Air Jordan 5 was also the first Jordan shoe to have a clear sole. This not only added a nice look, but provided far better traction.

Air Jordan VII

The Air Jordan 7 was worn by Mike in the 1991-92 season as well as the gold-medal winning Barcelona Olympic Games. The Air Jordan 7 is a very unique shoe. It featured huarached technology which made the shoe really stick to your foot and was much lighter weight than some of the previous Air Jordans. It aslo did not feature the “Nike Air” logo, a visible air unit, or clear soles. The Air Jordan 7 was a love/hate shoe. None-the-less, it is still a very popular shoe and has a large following whenever re-released.

The Air Jordan 8 was released during the 1992-93 “Three-Peat” Championship season. Its base was clearly close to its predecessor but it had a lot more details, colors, and cross-over velcro/leather straps. There were only 4 retro colorways released in total with two mids and two lows.  The Air Jordan 8 retros were one of the most anticipated retros ever released.

Air Jordan 10

The Air Jordan 10 was released in 1994-95 despite Jordan’s absense from the NBA.  When he returned, Nike started to re-release older model's of the Air Jordan series (I, II, III) and the Air Jordan 10's soles featured an award from each year Michael had spent in the NBA.

Air Jordan 11

Released for MJ's first full season back in the league, the 1995 - 1996 campaign, the Air Jordan XI was, surprisingly, not an instant hit. In fact, many stores had a tough time selling the shoes at all. It wasn't until people started seeing MJ light up the league in his distinctive patent leather XIs that the shoes started to sell, and sell, and sell. And there seems no end to the demand as, even today, any new re-release of the XI sells out in a matter of hours in most cases. The primary appeal of the Air Jordan XI for most people is it's incredibly distinctive appearance. The prominent use of patent leather paired with an otherwise simple upper and translucent outsole makes the XI instantly recognizable. The bold, yet simple and elegant look of the XI seems to embody, better than any other Jordan shoe, the essence of the man and his game.
